Lock Set to Start for Seattle Seahawks Against San Francisco 49ers

The Seattle Seahawks have announced that Drew Lock will start at quarterback on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, replacing the injured Geno Smith. This marks Lock's first start as a Seahawk and comes after Smith suffered a groin injury in practice on Thursday.

Lock has seen limited action this season, completing four of 12 passes for 66 yards and an interception over two brief appearances in relief of Smith. However, coach Pete Carroll believes that Lock is ready to take on the starting role, saying 'He's been waiting for this opportunity and looking forward to it and preparing for it.'

Lock was acquired by the Seahawks from the Denver Broncos in March 2022 as part of the Russell Wilson trade. He played three seasons with the Broncos, starting 21 games and throwing 25 touchdown passes against 20 interceptions.

Smith, who has been dealing with a groin injury, is inactive for Sunday's game. The team decided not to risk making the injury worse, despite Smith saying he was still 'not close' to 100 percent after their recent loss to the Rams.

The Seahawks will also be without cornerback Tre Brown, who is sidelined with a heel injury. Linebacker Jordyn Brooks, who was listed as questionable with an ankle sprain, is active and expected to play.

Running backs Ken Walker III (oblique) and Zach Charbonnet (knee bruise) are available after being listed as questionable, while linebacker Walker has missed most of the past three games.

Despite the challenges they face without their starting quarterback and other key players, the Seahawks will look to snap a three-game losing streak and avoid falling further out of the NFC playoff picture. Lock's performance in his first start for the team will be closely watched as he looks to lead the Seahawks to victory against the 49ers.
